Cary captures Junior Legion State Title, but not without a fight from Mooresville and SEG had Mooresville’s # in Round One of the playoffs

Cary(53-5) captures their fifth State Title in the 12-year history of the Junior American Legion State Tournament and Cary tops Mooresville 8-1 in the Final game of the double-elimination tournament…Cary defeated Mooresvile and Mooresville was trailing the Southeast Guilford Junior Legion team, going to the bottom of the 7th inning at SEG, in Round One of the playoffs(Game Five) and Lake Norman/Mooresville had to pull it out at SEG just to advance to the Second Round and then they go on to make it to the Final game of the tournament and that just goes to show you how close Southeast Guilford was in this year’s event/tournament….Good job by all, during the 2012 season….Locally Charlie Pannell and state-wide Bob Beeson, have worked hard in building this Junior American Legion Baseball program…..

from the finals on Tuesday, out of the Jacksonville News at www.jdnews.com:

Mooresville 4, Cary 0

Cary 8, Mooresville 1

Cary captured the N.C. Junior American Legion state title for fifth time in 12-year history of the event and finished 53-5 (38-1 vs. junior legion foes). Mooresville winds up 24-8 after advancing to the final game on the strength of a no-hitter Monday and a shutout of Cary in Tuesday’s opener on the last day of the five-day double-elimination tournament.

  1. The State Championship will be played in Area 3 next year. Bob Beeson and the Jr. Legion guys are excited to have it close to home and are looking to improve and expand the State Championship series. Charlie Pannell
