ELON, N.C. – Elon University head women’s soccer coach Chris Neal announced the addition of Shak Salandy (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Davidson/Jackson State) today, July 23. Salandy is eligible to play for the Phoenix this season.

“I am excited to see what Shak brings to the table,” Neal said. “She had a tremendous youth career and will be the first player in the history of our roster that has earned caps at the international level. Shak provides immediate competition and depth at the forward position and we are excited to welcome her to the Phoenix family.”

Salandy comes to Elon after redshirting last season at Jackson State following an injury that kept her sidelined for the 2011 season.

As a prep at North Davidson High School, Salandy scored 29 goals as a senior and led the Knights to a 14-6-1 record and an NCHSAA playoff berth. She was selected to participate in the annual East-West Girls All-Star Game following her senior campaign. In her final season, Salandy was named the Davidson County Player of the Year. She broke nearly every scoring record at North Davidson in her final season.

Salandy was also a member of the Trinidad & Tobago’s U-17 team from 2008-10, earning 12 caps at the international level.

Salandy is also a member of the Piedmont Soccer Alliance, playing under her father, Andy Salandy. She has helped her club team to a pair of state cup titles, as well as a final four and semifinals appearance.

An exercise science major, Shak is the daughter of Andy and Eulith Salandy. Her father was a standout men’s soccer player at Appalachian State from 1987-90 and will be inducted into the ASU Athletics Hall of Fame in September.
