Greensboro College Head Football Coach Bill Young Speaks at USA South Media Day

(Danville, Virginia) — First year Greensboro College head football coach Bill Young addressed the media at the annual USA South Media Day at Averett University on Monday. The Pride kicked off the event as the number eight team in the preseason poll.

“What you see in the past is not what you will see in the future,” said Young. “We are moving forward and plan to be a factor in the future. We will not stand idly by and continue to be in this position.”

Greensboro returns 52 players from 2011 and while depth is a concern, Young is optimistic at the prospects of the upcoming season.

“If we remain healthy, we know we can compete,” Young added. “We are excited with the effort that our guys have put in off the field – not only in training but in the community and in the classroom.”

While Young enters his first season at the helm of the program, he is a familiar face on the sideline, having served as an assistant with The Pride since the program was formed in 1997. Young has also retained the staff from last season, bringing with them a sense of continuity.

“We have an excellent staff that remains intact,” Young commented. “We are not going to out coach a lot of people in this conference though. We have a lot of a lot work ahead but we are excited by the challenge.”

With fall practice just around the corner, Young is looking to create competition at all positions.

“We have a good group of incoming players,” said Young. “These guys are going to come in and have a chance to compete.”

Greensboro will kick off the 2012 campaign on Saturday, September 1 at cross-town rival Guilford. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
