Masters Champions, PGA Champion Join Wyndham Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, Y.E. Yang and J.B. Holmes have all joined the field for next week’s Wyndham Championship, it was announced today. The 73rd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 13-19, 2012.

These players join a field that already includes defending champion and 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson, 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, Jason Dufner who is currently third in the FedExCup point standings and eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings, former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker, Carl Pettersson and Ryan Moore, Japanese superstar Ryo Ishikawa, 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms, two-time major winner John Daly, 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, 1997 Open Championship winner Justin Leonard, Nick Watney, two-time major winner Angel Cabrera and NC State alumnus Tim Clark.

Schwartzel won the Masters in 2011; he is currently 22nd in the Official World Golf Rankings and 99th in the FedExCup point standings. The Johannesburg, South Africa native has six international wins in addition to his Masters win last year. He finished tied for fourth at the World Golf Championship – Cadillac Championship in March to record his highest finish of the season. He has made seven cuts in 10 starts this year and is making his inaugural Wyndham Championship appearance.

Immelman won the Masters in 2008, and he will make his third consecutive Wyndham appearance next week. He finished tied for 53rd in 2010 and missed the cut last year while recovering from a wrist injury that has also hampered his play this year. He has two PGA TOUR victories and six international wins. He started playing golf at age five following in the footsteps of his brother Mark who will be at the Wyndham next week working with XM Satellite Radio’s PGA TOUR Radio broadcast team. The Cape Town, South Africa native lives in Orlando.

Yang won the PGA Championship and the Honda Classic in 2009; in addition, he has nine international wins and is 88th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He played in the Wyndham Championship in 2008 and finished tied for 30th at Sedgefield Country Club in his only previous appearance here. A native of South Korea, Yang currently loves in Dallas.

J.B. Holmes will make his Wyndham Championship debut next week at Sedgefield. Holmes had brain surgery on September 1, 2011 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. In his second week back on TOUR, he finished tied for 45th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February, site of his only two PGA TOUR wins (2006 and ‘08). Despite the shortened season, he finished 62nd in the 2011 FedExCup point standings and is currently 72nd in points. He represented the United States on the Ryder Cup team in 2008.
