Country’s Top Divers Gearing Up for AT&T National Championships

Many of the nation’s elite divers will be heading to the Greensboro Aquatic Center next week to participate in the AT&T National Diving Championships (August 14-19). Divers will compete for 10 titles in what will be the first national competition to follow the U.S. Olympic Team Trials which took place in Federal Way, Washington this past June.

One of the premier annual diving events, the 2012 AT&T Nationals is expected to draw approximately 110 of the nation’s best divers, including members of this year’s U.S. Olympic team. Silver Medalist Abby Johnston (Upper Arlington, OH) and Bronze Medalist Troy Dumais (Ventura, CA) are among those planning to participate.

Other competitors include Amy Cozad (Indianapolis, IN) who finished 3rd in the Women’s Platform event at Olympic Trials, just missing out on the trip to London. Up-and-comer Steele Johnson (Carmel, IN) will also compete after finishing 6th in Men’s Platform and 2nd in Synchronized Men’s Platform at trials.

As for divers with North Carolina ties, Huntersville’s Greg Ferrucci will participate in multiple events. Greg finished 3rd in the Men’s 1-Meter competition and 2nd in the Men’s 3-Meter competition earlier this year at the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship.

The AT&T National Diving Championships are the culmination of three weeks of national level diving competitions that have been hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center this month which has resulted in an estimated economic impact of more than $8 million.
