RICHMOND, Va. – The High Point University men’s soccer team played Richmond to a scoreless tie in the team’s first exhibition game of the season on Sunday night in Richmond, Va. Senior Shawn Sloan led HPU with five shots including two on goal.

High Point controlled the majority of possesion in the game and created several quality scoring chances. The Panthers’ best chance came in the 85th minute when sophomore Leon Carby got in on goal and put up a shot that forced a stop by the Richmond keeper. The rebound spilled to the feet of sophomore Mamadee Nyepon who sent the ball just wide of the left post.

HPU’s defense played well, limiting Richmond to just one shot on frame in the contest which was parried away with a diving stop by redshirt-freshman keeper Kody Palmer.

High Point will play its second and final exhibition game against Appalachian State next Saturday, August 18, at 7 p.m., at the Vert Track, Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. The game will be immediately followed by a fireworks display.
