Crotty Named Elon Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach

ELON, N.C. – Elon women’s lacrosse coach Josh Hexter has announced the hiring of Virginia Crotty as the first assistant coach for the program. Crotty is a 2011 graduate of Duke University where she was a two-year starter and a team captain.

“I’m honored to have been selected to build a tradition of excellence with the women’s lacrosse program here at Elon,” said Crotty. “I want to thank Coach Hexter and the Elon athletic administration for giving me this incredible opportunity to assist in building a solid foundation for the women’s lacrosse program.”

Crotty played attack for the Blue Devils from 2008-11 and was fifth in total points her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she posted a career high 15 assists and 12 draw controls. She also recorded four multi-goal and four multi-assist games as the team advanced to the NCAA semifinals. As a senior, Crotty was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

“Virginia is an amazing addition to our program,” said Hexter. “She shares the same coaching philosophy and passion for teaching the game as I do. I think her toughness and NCAA tournament experience, including a final four appearance, will prove to be a great resource for our incoming student-athletes. Virginia is a good teacher of the game and brings positive energy to the field every day. I’m very happy to have her join the Elon family.”

A native of New Vernon, N.J., Crotty graduated from Oak Knoll High School in 2007. As a four-year varsity letter winner at Oak Knoll, Crotty was a two-time All-American, first team all-state, multiple all-conference, all-division and all metro-choice selection, as well as team MVP and captain. She was also a member of the USA U-19 team that won the World Championship in 2007.
