Elon Men’s Tennis Adds Three for 2013 Season

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head men’s tennis coach Michael Leonard announced three additions for the Phoenix in 2013. Ismael Delfin (Toluca, Mexico), Brian Kowalski (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough/Emory University) and Robert Lindgren (Bastad, Sweden) will all compete for Elon this upcoming season.

“We are extremely excited to have Ismael, Brian and Robert as a part of our program here at Elon,” Leonard said. “All three student-athletes bring something different to the table and each maintains a strong work-ethic both on the tennis courts and in the classroom.”

Delfin attended the IMG Tennis Academies for nine years prior to coming to Elon. He was a doubles finalist in the Barbados ITF this past year.

Kowalski spent last season at Division III Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. While at Emory, Kowalski helped the Eagles to the Division III national title with an overall singles record of 20-5 and a doubles mark of 27-2. Kowalski saw action during the season at the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles spots, finishing the season on a 14-match winning streak in singles action and was undefeated in the NCAA Tournament. Kowalski was a first-team All-University Athletic Association selection in 2012 in both singles and doubles.

Lindgren has spent the last three years playing in the Swedish Men’s Tennis League for his former home club, Gefle TK. As of May 2012, Lindgren was ranked 84th among all Swedish men’s tennis players. In juniors, he reached the quarterfinals in three national championships and was ranked as high as sixth in Sweden.
