College Volleyball Finals – William Peace 3, Guilford 0; Averett 3, Guilford 0

DANVILLE, Va. – Guilford College’s volleyball team opened its season with a pair of losses at the Averett University Cougar Classic Saturday. The Quakers fell to William Peace, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24 in its first match of the day and dropped a 25-13, 25-18, 25-13 decision to the host Cougars.
In the William Peace (1-0) match, Guilford’s Kelsey Ruehling had seven kills and Brittany DeCesare added six. Junior Taylor Whitley had 17 assists and classmate Meredith Foscue scooped up a team-best 13 digs.

DeCesare and Ruehling both had five kills in the Quakers’ (0-2) loss to Averett (1-0). Ruehling also paced Guilford with eight digs and shared team-high honors with fellow rookie Brooke Herr. Whitley finished with 15 assists.

The Quakers close out play at the tournament Sunday (9/2) against Methodist University and Hollins University.
