Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Rolls by Randolph for First Win of the Season

The Pride men’s soccer team earned its first win of the season on Sunday with a 2-0 home victory over Randolph.

Greensboro capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity in the 24th minute of the game after WildCat goalie Carter Smith was red carded for contesting a ball in the box. Logan Paussa converted the kick, beating back-up keeper CJ Stevens to the right side of the goal.

The remainder of the first half played out scoreless, sending the game into the break with The Pride on top 1-0.

After taking only two shots in the first half, Greensboro came out firing in the second with eight shot attempts. The Pride padded the lead at the 66:56 mark with an unassisted goal by Morgan Stevenson.

Stevenson had another scoring chance around the ten minute mark, as Earl Floyd beat the keeper and dumped the ball to Stevenson who placed his shot just wide of the goal.

Both teams attempted ten ten shots with Greensboro holding a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Stevenson led the way with four shots and two on goal, while Paussa contributed two on goal. Manbi Nyepon picked up his first win in goal, recording four saves to preserve the shutout.

With the victory, The Pride improve to 1-1-0 on the season. Greensboro will return to the field next Saturday against Roanoke at the Shellenberger Memorial Classic at Lynchburg, VA.
