Greensboro College Women’s Soccer Downed by Marymount 2-0

The Greensboro College women’s soccer team dropped its first game of the season on Saturday to Marymount 2-0. Against Hood on Friday, The Pride dominated the shot count en route to a season opening 2-1 overtime win. On Saturday, however, Greensboro got off to a slow start offensively and were unable to recover down the stretch.

Marymount opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game with Katie Hamelin converting a cross from Melissa Fessenden.

After failing to record a shot attempt in the first half, The Pride fired off six shots in the second half – all of which were unsuccessful.

The Saints took advantage of Greensboro’s inability to find the goal as Hamelin added her second goal of the game on a tap in off of two cross attempts into the box.

Overall, Marymount held a 12-6 advantage in shots. Shireen Unvala suffered the loss in goal despite making three saves.

The Pride fall to 1-1 with the defeat and will look to rebound on Friday, September 7 against Bridgewater in the home opener. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. on Pride Field.
