College Women’s Soccer Final – Methodist 2, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kristin Habig’s goal broke a 1-1 tie in the 87th minute and sent visiting Methodist University’s 2-1 nonconference soccer win at Guilford College Wednesday night.

The Monarchs (1-2) overcame a 1-0 deficit after the Quakers (0-3) struck in the 61st minute when Sarah Levitt booted the ball into the net off a right-side pass from Hannah Schiltz. Ten minutes later, the Monarchs’ Lisa Paschal fired a long shot that found the back of the net and tied the game at 1-1. With less than three minutes to play in regulation, the Monarchs’ Brooke Corley settled a bouncing ball at the top of the box and fed Habig for the game-winning goal.

The Quakers held a 15-13 shots advantage over the Monarchs, but Methodist outshot the Guilford, 11-6, in the final 45 minutes.

Junior Cori Karoly made five saves for the Quakers, all in the second half. Taylor Ross kept the Monarchs in the game with eight stops.

The Quakers now begin a stretch of three straight road games with a pair of games Saturday and Sunday against Rowan University and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
