Greensboro College Drops Men’s and Women’s Cross Country

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — Greensboro College officially announced that the Athletics Department will no longer field varsity men’s and women’s cross country teams. The decision to discontinue the programs is effective immediately and affected student-athletes were informed over the summer.

The men began competing on an annual basis in 1993 with the women’s program forming for the first time in 1994.

  1. Saw Coach Randy Tuggle at Shane’s Rib Shack tonight and the women’s basketball team is still trucking….

  2. If these schools would just reach out into the community and partner with more businesses and get the greater community involved with their sports and campus activities, I believe they could eliminate a lot of these cuts in programs.

  3. They were not really trying to be competitive in cross country anyway.
They did not have those kids run in indoor or outdoor track meets in the distance events in the winter and spring.
By failing to do this they were allowing other programs to continue to train while they became inactive.
I do hope they will someday reinstate cross country.I hope they will try and better develop the athletes and make them an part of a competitive program and not just having cross country just to merely exist.
