College Volleyball Finals – Greensboro 3, Guilford 1; William Peace 3, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday at the Greensboro College Invitational Tournament. The Quakers fell to the host Pride, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19, in their first match. William Peace University claimed a 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 victory in Guilford’s second match.

Greensboro (5-1) served up 18 aces and got a match-high 18 kills from Liz Widenhouse in Guilford’s first contest Saturday. Widenhouse led all players with six aces, along with teammate Danielle Simpson.

Guilford (2-5) was led by rookie Kelsey Ruehling’s first career double-double with a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Brooke Herr paced both teams with 11 digs. Junior setter Meredith Foscue chipped in with 17 assists and four aces.

The Quakers hit -.050 as a team against William Peace (2-3) as the Pacers notched their second win of the season against Guilford. Lauren Naugle led William Peace with a match-best 14 kills and served three of the team’s 10 service aces. Crystal Alston added 10 kills and 11 digs for the Pacers.
Guilford’s Malikah French had four kills for Guilford. Herr contributed 11 digs.

The Quakers wrap up tournament action Sunday (9/9) against Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke College and Agnes Scott College.
