Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Blows by Lynchburg 2-0

The Greensboro College men’s soccer team capped its weekend slate with a 2-0 victory over host Lynchburg at the Shellenberger Classic. Both goals came in the first half as The Pride jumped all over the Hornets to move to .500 on the young season.

Morgan Stevenson netted the first goal less than ten minutes into the game on an assist from Marco Figueroa. Sean Courtney capped off the scoring in the 40th minute, heading in a cross from Logan Paussa.

Lynchburg held a 20-10 advantage in total shots but were outshot by Greensboro on goal 6-5. The Pride also made the most of their opportunities with the only two goals of the game.

Drew Clukey led Greensboro with two total shots as nine different players attempted a shot. Six players put a shot on goal for The Pride. Manbi Nyepon had an impressive showing in net, making five saves to earn the shut out win.

Earning All-Tournament honors for Greensboro were Stevenson, Figueroa and Gentry Johnson.

The Pride improves to 2-2 with the victory. Greensboro will next be in action on Saturday, September 15 at home against Christopher Newport. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on Pride Field.
