HPU Men’s Golf Shoots 588 In First Two Rounds Of The Raines Development Group Intercollegiate

FLORENCE, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team shot a combined 588 (293-295) through 36 holes on Monday and currently sit in 13th after day one of the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate in Florence, S.C. Sophomore L.J. Georgetti shot a 142 in two rounds to pace the Panthers.

“I think we had some big moments of greatness today,” head coach Greg Flesher said. I am very proud of the way LJ performed. He hit some phenomenal shots, kept the ball in play and finished with a birdie on the final hole of the day. As a whole, we were a little up and down but everyone hit some good shots and we had some good runs of pars and birdies. With the way we finished I really think our best golf is ahead of us.”

In his first collegiate tournament, Georgetti sits in a tie for 10th after two rounds after carding a 73 in the first round and a career-low 69 in the second. The sophomore will enter the third and final round two-shots under par and six-shots off the lead.

Sophomore Sam Stewart sits just one-stroke back of Georgetti in a tie for 18th after turning in rounds of 70 and 73 for a 36-hole score of 143, one-under par. Senior Chase Wilson is tied for 51st with a two-round score of 149 after shooting 75-74. Sophomore Charles Valluzzo is tied for 76th with a two-round total of 154 (75-79) and freshman Tommy Dillon is in 85th with a 36-hole score of 162 (80-82).

Gardner-Webb leads the team standings with a total team score of 564. The Runnin’ Bulldogs posted scores of 283 and 281 to take the day-one lead. Old Dominion sits in second place, four-strokes back of GWU, with a score of 568. Georgia College (570), Loyola-Maryland (575) and North Alabama (576) round out the top five.

Gardner-Webb’s Matthew Yelverton (69-67) and Loyola-Maryland’s Brendan Lemp (66-70) are tied for first in the individual standings after both carded an eight-under 136 through 36 holes. GWU’s Daniel Kim and ODU’s Jamison Randall are tied for third, two-strokes back of the leading pair.

The Panthers return to the Country Club of South Carolina for the third and final round of the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Sept. 11. HPU will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 9:20 a.m.
