The Greensboro College women’s golf team opened its second season of competition over the weekend at the Piedmont Invitational. The tournament marked the first in which The Pride fielded a full team.
Hitting the course for Greensboro were Tara Smith, Courtney Holt, Alexis Gregory and Taylor Watkins. Smith posted a team best 36-hole score of 199 (104-95) as each Pride golfer saw improvement from Sunday’s opening round to Monday’s finale.
“This was the girls’ first tournament playing from the longer college yardages and it was definitely a great learning experience,” said Pride assistant women’s golf coach Anne Wooton. “The girls had a lot of fun playing a beautiful golf course and, although it may not be evident from their scores, their games showed a lot of potential for growth and low scores. Tara Smith actually had her personal best round during our Sunday practice round with a string of pars and birdies to shoot 84.”
Greensboro will hit the course again on Saturday for the two-day Hollins Invitational.
