College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Eastern Mennonite 2

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior middle blocker Malikah French had 13 kills on .462 hitting and seven blocks in Guilford College’s 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win at Eastern Mennonite University Friday.

French had two kills and two blocks in the decisive fifth set of the Quakers’ (3-7, 0-1 ODAC) 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 15-6 win. Junior setter Taylor Whitley added 42 assists and 17 digs in her return to the lineup following a four-match absence due to injury. Rookie libero Brooke Herr shined on the back row with a team-high 18 digs and 24 errorless service receptions. Kelsey Ruehling contributed a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Teammate Brittany DeCesare also had 12 putaways, plus eight digs.

Guilford’s balanced performance overcame Sara Ritchie’s match high 21 kills for the host Royals (2-6, 0-2 ODAC). Ritchie did commit 10 errors and finished with a .183 hitting percentage. Setter Mattie Lehman had 44 assists and 10 digs for Eastern Mennonite. The Quakers’ season-high 10 team blocks contributed to the Royals’ .099 team hitting percentage.

Guilford remains in northern Virginia to play league-rival Bridgewater College Saturday (9/15) at 1:00 p.m.
