College Women’s Soccer Final – Bridgewater 1, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Bridgewater College’s Melanie Waters broke a scoreless draw in the 79th minute to lead the Eagles to a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win over Guilford College Saturday.

The host Quakers (0-7, 0-2 ODAC) held the Eagles (5-2, 2-0 ODAC) scoreless after the first half and held the Eagles’ shot advantage to 8-4.

Both teams increased their scoring chances in the second half and Guilford almost took the lead the when senior Gabrielle Lahowitch hit the crossbar on a shot from 18 yards out in the 77th minute. Two minutes later, Sarah Conner fed a through ball to Waters for the game’s only goal.

The Eagles held the advantage in shots, 24-11. Cori Karoly made a career-high 12 saves in net for the Quakers. Her counterpart, Chelsea Steele, made seven saves in a shutout effort.

The Quakers return to action Monday (9/17) when they visit Greensboro College to face the Pride.
