High Point Men’s Lacrosse Announces First Schedule

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse team will open its first season on Feb. 2 against Delaware at Vert Stadium, as part of the Panthers’ 2013 schedule announced by head coach Jon Torpey on Monday. HPU will host seven games at Vert Stadium in its inaugural season.

“We are very fortunate to have so many great programs on our 2012-13 schedule,” Torpey said. “We made a promise to the team that we would play an extremely competitive schedule and there is no doubt this schedule will be a great challenge. This year is an opportunity for us to come out and see how we match up against some of the best Division I programs in the country.”

The Panthers open their fall slate on Oct. 6 at the Collelluri Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. High Point will face Marquette at 9 a.m. and Colgate at 3:30 p.m. The team will also hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Oct. 13 at Vert Stadium. The game will begin at 9 a.m.

In the spring, HPU will play one final exhibition day with scrimmages against Bucknell and Navy in Durham, N.C. on Jan. 26.

The program opener against Delaware will be on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at Vert Stadium before hosting Towson on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. The Panthers will host Air Force on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.

High Point will play three consecutive road games – St. Joseph’s, Bellarmine and Jacksonville – before returning home to host Michigan on March 6. After a March 16 game at UMBC, the Panthers have back-to-back home games against Brown (March 24) and Lafayette (March 27).

HPU’s final home game will be a battle of first-year programs when Marquette comes to Vert Stadium on April 13. High Point winds down its first season with games at Duke, North Carolina and Drexel.
