College Volleyball Final – N.C. Wesleyan 3, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Anna Hart hit .304 with nine kills and Taylor Johnson added eight putaways in visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College’s 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 volleyball win at Guilford College Friday night in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Battling Bishops (5-6) held a 10-9 lead in the first game before closing on a 15-5 run for the win. Johnson had four kills in the opening game and Shana Ayers picked up five of her match-high 18 digs.

The momentum carried over into the second game as Meredith Smith had all seven of her kills on .700 hitting and helped North Carolina Wesleyan hit .467 as a team. Guilford (4-9) managed .083 hitting in the game.

Ayers served up three of the Battling Bishops’ 11 aces. Setter Kristi Lucas turned in a solid performance with 32 assists, three kills, two aces and six digs.

Rookie Kelsey Ruehling’s eight kills paced the Quakers. Setter Taylor Whitley contributed 14 assists and seven digs. Brooke Herr (13) and Meredith Foscue (10 digs) led Guilford’s defense.

Guilford resumes its five-match homestand Wednesday (9/26) against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Lynchburg College at 6:30 p.m.
