Porter Ridge football players were not fighting:Porter Ridge Pirates can still go to the playoffs

This has been a hot topic down around Charlotte and Mecklenburg County last night and all day today, as a fight was said to have broken out last night and the officials made that call and that would have meant that the Porter Ridge Pirates could not go to the playoffs this season, since they had three or more players involved in the incident….The same thing happened to the Southwest Guilford Cowboys in their game at Eastern Guilford last season….

Well after the game last night, the officials huddled and they came to the conclusion that there was NO fight and when they sent in their report to the NCHSAA, there would be no fighting incident reported….

Porter Ridge athletics director Bill Rogers had a rough few hours after Friday’s 17-7 win over Providence Day.

Three Pirates starters were ejected from the game, during what appeared to be a fight on the field. Those players ran onto the field, along with several other Pirates players. State association rules call for any team that has three or more players ejected for the same fighting incident to give up their playoff privileges.

On Saturday, the Union County supervisor of officials contacted Rogers and said the ejection call had been overturned. Rogers said he was told the officials met after the game to make sure their ejection call was correct.
