Women’s Soccer Knocks Off North Carolina Wesleyan 3-0

The Greensboro College women’s soccer team stayed perfect in USA South play with a 3-0 home victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Pride got to work early in the game, attempting 13 first half shots with three coming on goal. Meredith Kelly netted the first goal of the day, rebounding a shot by Allison Gibson in the ninth minute.

Greensboro would only convert the one first half opportunity, taking a 1-0 lead into the break. Melanie Raton padded the lead nearly 14 minutes into the second, heading a corner from Tiffany Walters past the keeper.

Chloe Shields added the final goal of the day on an unassisted attempt with less then 12 minutes remaining in the game.

The Pride finished the game with an 18-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. Greensboro also attempted six corner kicks compared to one for the Battling Bishops.

Gibson fired a game high five total shots with two coming on goal. Raton also contributed three shots and one goal. Shireen Unvala earned the win in net, making two saves on the day.

The Pride are now 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the USA South. Greensboro will have little time to celebrate, as Methodist comes to town on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game on Pride Field.
