College Soccer News – Guilford’s Uresti Named ODAC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Kelli Uresti (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week Monday. She also received Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week Award, which is presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Uresti, a rookie midfielder, was a fundamental player in the Quakers’ three victories last week. She netted her first college goals Sept. 17 in the 5-4 overtime victory against Greensboro College. Two days later she had a hand in four of the Quakers’ goals in a 5-1 ODAC win at Hollins University. She scored once and tallied three assists for five points on the day. Uresti closed the week with two more goals in Guilford’s 6-0 win at conference-rival Eastern Mennonite Sept. 22.

The Quakers’ third straight win marked head coach Eric Lewis’ 100th coaching career victory.

Uresti’s week vaulted her into the team lead with five goals and 13 points. She ranks ninth among ODAC goals leaders and her 13 points stand seventh.
Lewis’ Quakers (3-7, 2-2 ODAC) see action again Sept. 26 against conference-rival Lynchburg College at 7:00 pm. at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Past Guilford SAAC activities have included cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
