Elon’s Thomas Honored by College Soccer News

ELON, N.C. – Elon’s Chris Thomas was named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week as announced Monday morning, Sept. 24.

The senior forward scored four goals last week, helping the Phoenix go 2-0 with victories at William & Mary and at home over sixth-ranked Charlotte.

Thomas had the game-winner in both contests as he scored the golden goal in the Phoenix’s 2-1 overtime win at W&M, his second tally of the contest. The Snellville, Ga. native followed that performance with two more scores at home as the maroon and gold defeated the 49ers, 2-0.

Thomas has scored 10 goals this season helping, the Phoenix win five of its last six matches to improve to 5-2 overall on the season. Thomas now joins Mike Wessels’ (1985-89) as the only players in program history with 40 or more career goals. He is three shy of tying Wessels’ mark of 43 scores.

Elon returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. to host Radford before traveling to Davidson on Friday, Sept. 28 to open Southern Conference play. That match is also slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
