GC’s Men’s Soccer Holds Off Hampden-Sydney 2-1

The Greensboro College men’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 and held off Hampden-Sydney late for a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

Logan Paussa got the scoring started in style with a 45-yard line-drive past the keeper to put The Pride up 1-0 at the 31:11 point. Paussa found the scoreboard again ten minutes into the second half on a penalty kick to extend the lead to 2-0.

Chris Whiteside narrowed the gap for the Tigers, converting on a ball over the head of Greensboro goalie Manbi Nyepon in the 21st minute. The assist on the play was awarded to Jackson Parker.

Leading by only a goal, The Pride held off Hampden-Sydney for the final 20:35 of regulation to earn the non-conference win.

Drew Clukey tallied a game high four shots with Paussa putting a game leading three shots on goal. Craig Gage also contributed three shots with two on goal for Greensboro. Nyepon earned the win to improve his record to 5-1-2.

With the victory, The Pride are now 5-2-2 on the season. Greensboro is scheduled to travel to Georgia this weekend to square off with new conference foes Piedmont and LaGrange.

  1. I took my own advice and went to the game yesterday. If you are looking for some free entertainment and some very good soccer, go to a Greensboro College, Guilford College or UNCG soccer game. Greensboro College looked very good, but we need a wealthy alum to step up and put in a quality field.
