College Women’s Soccer Final – #9 Lynchburg 5, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Morgan Singer and Kara Schaffer both scored a goal and an assist in nationally ranked Lynchburg College’s 5-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win over Guilford College Wednesday night. The Hornets (9-0-1, 3-0-1 ODAC) are ranked ninth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer poll.

Singer and Schaffer were two of Lynchburg’s five goal scorers off the bench. Guilford (3-8, 2-3 ODAC), which had a three-game winning streak snapped, held off the Hornets for the first 43 minutes of play until Kristen Melchiori netted the match’s first goal in the 44th minute. Kathleen Szafranski doubled the Hornets’ lead off a scramble in the box 1:38 into the second half.

Lynchburg’s reserves wore down the Quakers in the second half as Schaffer, Singer and Nicole Kopsidas closed out the Hornets’ scoring.

Lynchburg outshot Guilford, 22-2. Audrey Moore made one save in 75 minutes of work before yielding to Karsen Schottleutner. Cori Karoly made seven saves in net for the Quakers.

The Quakers return to action Saturday when they host league-rival Randolph-Macon College at 2:00 p.m. on Homecoming Saturday.
