College Cross Country Results – Guilford Competes at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Guilford College sophomore Jasmine O’Neill (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland) ran the 10th-fastest six-kilometer time in school history Friday at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.. Clemson University clinched the top spot in the contest. Guilford was the only NCAA Division III team in the 33-team women’s field and finished 30th.

Guilford junior Andris Goncarovs finished 44th out of 244 runners in the men’s race. Virginia Tech took first in the eight-kilometer contest at McAlpine Park. Guilford was the sole NCAA Division III competitor in the 35-team field and placed 21st.

O’Neill notched Guilford’s top time and completed the six-kilometer race in 168th place among 233 runners with her 25:55.28 finish. Rookie Rebecca Reyna (26:58.94) had Guilford’s second-fastest time and the 19th-best in school history. Sophomore Emily Cash (30:09.58) recorded Guilford’s the third-best time. Junior Colleen Gonzalez (31:59.95) and rookie Jamie Luckhaus (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) (33:07.16) rounded out the Quakers’ scoring.

Goncarovs led Guilford and crossed the finish line in 25:36.71, the fifth-best time in school history. Classmates Chad Norton (26:02.33) and David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) (26:40.99) took second and third place on the team, respectively. Norton’s clocking ranks 10th all-time at Guilford and Cason’s effort stands 17th. Rookie Matthew McKeown (29:17.98) and senior Joshua Farrar (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) (32.19.75) rounded out the Quakers’ scoring.

The Quakers’ cross country teams will next compete in the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, N.C. October 6.
