GC Volleyball Drops Two at Maryville Tri-Match

The Pride volleyball team fell to Maryville and nationally ranked Christopher Newport at a USA South tri-match at Maryville on Saturday. Greensboro lost to the Captains of Christopher Newport 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-16) in the opener before losing to host Maryville in the finale 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-22).

Against Christopher Newport, Liz Widenhouse was the only Pride player to reach double digits in kills with 14. Cortland Phillips provided 20 assists and Danielle Simpson picked up a match high 20 digs.

In match two against the Scots of Maryville, Olivia Gough tied for a match high nine kills. Phillips again surpassed 20 assists with 24 for the match. Defensively, Widenhouse and Simpson each had nine digs. Both Morgan Hooks and Widenhouse had one solo block while Gough led the way in assisted blocks with two.

With the defeats, The Pride fall to 9-7 overall and 0-2 in the USA South. Greensboro is scheduled to travel to William Peace on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
