Late Piedmont Goal Drops GC Women’s Soccer 2-1

A late goal by Nikki Means handed The Pride women’s soccer team a 2-1 setback on Saturday afternoon at Piedmont. Means’ decisive goal came with 8:18 left in regulation following an assist from Shayna Rogers.

Piedmont struck first, less than eight minutes into the game, on an unassisted goal by Laura Goodwin. The Pride responded seven minutes into the second half, as Erin Young gathered a rebound and dished it to Tiffany Walters to tie the score at 1-1.

Despite a five save effort by Jessica Thatcher in net and numerous opportunities on the offensive end, Greensboro was unable to make the big play down the stretch.

Overall, The Pride held a slight 12-11 advantage in total shots. Greensboro placed five shots on goal for the afternoon with Walters recording a team high two attempts. Both Walters and Sarah Hopkins finished the game with three total shots.

With the loss, The Pride drop to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the USA South. Greensboro will look to rebound on Sunday at LaGrange for a 1 p.m. match.
