Elon Volleyball’s Deatsch Tabbed SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon’s Ali Deatsch has been named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced today, Oct. 1. This is the first time this year that Deatsch has been honored by the conference with the weekly award and the third time of her career.

The senior libero recorded a total of 52 digs in seven sets last week for the Phoenix, averaging 7.43 digs per set. In the team’s sweep of Western Carolina, Deatsch finished with 23 digs to average 7.66 digs per set. Against Appalachian State, she tallied 29 digs for 7.25 digs per set. The Elmhurst, Ill., native also finished the week with seven assists. Deatsch, who is the program’s all-time Division I leader in digs, currently has 1,702 career digs.

Elon will play a pair of home matches this weekend in Alumni Gym, hosting Chattanooga on Friday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. and Samford on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
