Local girls in DI Basketball: Its Basketball Hoop Time

Below are players from this area that are now playing Division I Basketball. They will range from a Freshmen to a Senior. Also included is a little information about them and their accomplishments. We would like for you to look over each player and vote on the one that you think will have the greatest impact on their team this coming season as far as productivity and team improvement. Former Coaches are also welcome to cast their votes and input.

Samantha Cofer: Northern Guilford: Elon: enters sophomore year: averaged 5.9 ppg and 4.7 rpg: saw lots of playing time and started in 26 games. First Team All Area, All Conference, All State. Team went 16-14 after winning over 20 games the year before with all the key components in place which consisted of Ali Ford, Kelsey Evans, Kelsey Harris and Lei Lei Hairston.

Tanisha Baker: Andrews: Campbell: averaged enters senior year: averaged 11.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 4.0 apg: One of the main cogs for Campbell: should be strong candidate for conference player of the year if Campbell finishes at least first or second in conference and her numbers increase in scoring to around the 17 point range.

Desiree Drayton: Dudley: UNC Charlotte: enters sophomore year: Conference Metro Player of the Year and First Team All Area. averaged 0.9 ppg. should provide great defensive pressure and scoring should improve in the 7 to 10 point range. minutes should increase in sophomore year.average a career 8 ppg at Dudley. Team went 16-14 and 8-6 in conference play after winning over 20 games the year before.

Zena Lovett: Southwest Guilford: Campbell: enters freshmen year:averaged 16.1 ppg and selected Area Player of the Year: Selected to East-West Allstar game: Should see a lot of playing time: Campbell went 18-12 and 11-7 in conference play. Her and Jessica Pone are from the same highschool.

Jasmine Gill: Page: James Madison: enters senior year: averaged 9 ppg: Transfer from Boston College: saw lots of playing tine and helped team to 29-8 and 14-4 conference. Metro Player of Year 2008. Should have a very productive year in the 10 -13 point range.

Trumae Lucas: Grimsley: Deleware: enters senior year after transferring from Florida and now has a season under her belt alongside one of the Nations best players in All American Ellen Del Donne: she averaged 6 ppg last year and those numbers should rise. A career 12 point scorer at Grimsley that reached the State finals. First Team All State and Conference player of the year. Slected to the North South and East West All Star game when she was named MVP. Team went 31-2 and finished #7 Nationally and went 18-0 in conference play. Needs to average around 12 points to take the pressure off of Del Donne.

Brittany Clency: Western Guilford: South Carolina Upstate: enters freshmen year: Selected to North South All Star game: average 19.3 ppg her senior year and scored over 1700 points in her career. Selected First Team All Area and All State. Should see considerable action as Upstate moves forward. Team went 9-21 in 2011-12 season

Zhan Greer: Smith: Charleston Southern:enters freshmmen year: averaged 8 ppg and made All Metro conference and Honorable Mention All Area her senior year: A career 12 point scorer whom should provide added depth for the Buccaneers. Team went 18-15 and 10-9 in conference play.

Helen Terry: Dudley: Charleston Southern: enters senior year: averaged 10.4 ppg, 3.4 apg, 2.7 rpg before season ending knee injury; Team went 18-15 and 10-9 in conference play. She was Metro player of the year and first team All Area her senior year along with First Team NC Preps All State. Should be one of their main players this year.

Jessica Pone: Southwest Guilford: Campbell: enters freshmen year: averaged 12.5 ppg: Could see valuable minutes: All Conference and second team All Area. Campbell went 18-12 and 11-7 in conference play. Her and Zena Lovett are from the same highschool.

Breonna Patterson: Dudley: UNCG: enters junior year: average a team leading 11.1 ppg and shot 35% from the field. Uncg went 3-25: Should lead the team again and her leadership will be very important.

Kierra McIvor: Dudley: Radford: enters sophomore year: averaged 1 ppg but played in 28 games: provided valuable minutes off the bench and started two games. Had a career 8 points against Eastern Mennonite: Team went 16-15 and 9-9 in conference play.

Autumn Carter: Rockingham: Elon: enters freshmen year with a 6’5 frame: averaged 18 ppg and 10 rpg senior year: North South Allstar. Should provide immediate help in the post and can score the ball. Elon went 16-14 last year.

Catrina Green: Western Guilford: Gardner Webb: enters junior year: Has been the most productive player over 6ft in the area. averaged 11.2 ppg and 8.7 rpg. Was a two time All Conference performer at Western Guilford and 3rd team All Area performer: Gradner Webb went 4-25 and 3-15 in conference play.

Lei Lei Hairston: Reidsville: Elon: averaged 2.5 ppg and 2.0 rpg: enters senior year: Team went 16-14 and 12-8 in conference play after winning 20 games in the 2010-11 season. A more solid season with production could help carry Elon a long way.

Jazmin Johnson: Thomasville Prep: Highpoint University: enters freshmen year: should challenge for playing time in the post and add valuable scoring in the 5-8 point range.

Lindsay Puckett: Rockingham: Highpoint University: enters redshirt sophomore year: Transfered from Marshill:averaged 5.8 ppg off the bench. Help HPU to one of its finest seasons at 20-13 and 13-5 in conference play.

Cheyenne Parker: Southwest Guilford: Highpoint University: enters junior year: One of the best shot blockers and rebounders in the country: Helped HPU to improve to 20-13 and 13-5 in conference play: averaged 13 ppg and 12 rpg. East-West All Star performer despite playing only towards the season end at Southwest Guilford.

Jayla Stewart: Burlington Williams: Maryland Eastern-shore: enters freshmen year: Conference player of the year. Averaged 10 ppg. Maryland Eastern Shore when 12-18 but 8-8 in conference play and finished in the top half of the conference. Should provide valuable minutes at the forward position.

Eboni Goins: Dudley: UNCG: enters Freshmen year. UNCG went 3-25: averaged a career 9 ppg: played in only six games before knee injury her senior year. Should provide outside shooting for the Spartans. All Conference and 4A All State despite playing only 6 games.

Cedrica Gibson: Thomasville Prep: St. John enters freshmen year: Transferred from Highpoint Central to Thomasville prep and averaged 12 ppg and 6 apg. Did not play senior year due to injury. Second team All Guilford as junior. Could see playing time at St. John.

Khadeja Wilkerson: Greensboro Day: Appalachian State: enters freshmen year and should provide rebounding help and have an inside presence. AppalachianTeam went 27-7 and loss in the Conference Tournament Championship game. averaged 13 ppg at Greensboro Day. Second team All Area senior year.

Miranda Jenkins: Eastern Guilford: Stonybrook University: Did not play due to injury in first preseason game against another college opponent. Scored 8 points, 4 rebs, 3 assts, 3 stls, 2 blks in less than 10 minutes and had team leading by 8 points before injury. Team loss by 5 points: Had earned starting position: Team went 4-26 and 1-15 in conference play. Only student athlete from the State of North Carolina to play in the American East Conference.

Cierra Jackson: Ragsdale: Army: enters sophomore year: enters junior year: averaged 1.3 ppg and 0.6 rpg: team went 14-16 and 8-6 in conference. Teams MVP at Ragsdale.

Brittany Gwyn: Highpoint Central: Ashville University: Team went 7-23: Averaged 8.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg in 10 games before getting injured and missing the rest of the season.

Amanda Hairston: Dudley: Bethune Cookman: enters junior year: has a college career average of 6.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg. One of the bright players in the MEAC in the post. Never really got it going at Dudley but has become a main player for the Wildcats. Team finished 7th in MEAC conference play.

Lisa Archie: Ragsdale: Elon: enters senior year: averaged 2.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg and had 25 blocks: Pizza Hut MVP and Conference Tournament MVP in 2007-08 season. Needs to provide solid help off bench for Elon to improve over last year.

Paris Alston: Southeast Guilford: South Carolina State: enters senior year: avergaed 5 ppg and 8 rpg. team finished 13-16 and 7-9 in conference play. Has had a solid career. First Team All Guilford and All Conference: a solid double-double season could get the Bulldogs over the hump.
