Greensboro College Volleyball Rolls Past Ferrum 3-1

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Greensboro College volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14) victory over Ferrum on Dig Pink Night on Wednesday. Overall, the team raised over $1,200 for the fight against breast cancer.

The Pride rolled past the Panthers in set one by a final count of 25-13. The turning point of the set came on a five point run by Greensboro to break open a 6-6 tie. The lead eventually hit double figures at 21-11 before The Pride closed out the win.

Ferrum fought back in set two with a 25-23 win to even the match. The Panthers went up by as many as six points but had to hold off a late Greensboro rally. Despite tying the set-up at 19-19 and 23-23, The Pride were unable to take complete control as Ferrum scored the final two points for the victory.

Greensboro dominated the final two sets, wasting little time opening up early advantages en route to identical 25-14 finishes.

Olivia Gough notched a match high 18 kills to lead three Pride players in double figures offensively. Liz Widenhouse contributed 14, while Megan Smith added 12. Cortland Phillips had a big night setting up the attack, finishing with 48 assists.

Defensively, Widenhouse picked up a match high 13 digs, with Gough recording 11 andDanielle Simpson tallying ten. As a team, Greensboro had 3.0 team blocks – as Morgan Hooks, Marquenette Fuller, Phillips and Gough each found the block column.

With the win, The Pride move to 11-9 overall and 2-4 in the USA South. Greensboro will hit the road on Saturday to face Piedmont and Methodist in a conference tri-match hosted by Methodist.
