GC Women’s Soccer Beats Ferrum 2-1 on Senior Day

The Pride women’s soccer team earned a key USA South win on Saturday, beating the visiting Panthers of Ferrum 2-1. To do so, Greensboro had to rally from behind after Ferrum took an early lead on a long free kick just over 14 minutes into the game.

Allison Gibson netted both goals for The Pride, with the first coming in the 34th minute. Gibson beat a defender and fired the ball past the keeper to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the break.

Gibson was back at it again in the second half, using an assist from Molly O’Keeffe to blast a shot off the post and into the goal in the 59th minute.

The score would hold for the remainder of the way, as Greensboro held off the Panthers down the stretch to give its five seniors a win on Senior Day.

The seniors recognized prior to the game were Sam Beasley, Brittany Crawford, Sarah Hopkins, Meredith Kelly and Chloe Shields.

The five seniors will have one final home regular season game on Sunday, as Maryville comes to town for a 1 p.m. game on Pride Field. The Pride are now 6-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
