High School Football Saturday Morning rewind with the Will Johnson FG, HPA on a tear and looking back at Dudley-WG

A lot of big number plays and big number games last night and we start ‘The Rewind’ with news on the 52-yard field goal by Will Johnson and the skinny on the kick from the High Point Enterprise:(Will Johnson told the HPE)….

“I knew it was on line. I was just hoping there was enough juice for it to go through,” Johnson said of the kick that gave Central a 17-14 lead en route to a 24-14 victory over the Bobcats. “Finally, I saw the refs’ hands go up and I started celebrating.”

The amazing feat from that left foot came after the Bison (7-2, 3-1 Piedmont Triad 4A) stalled at the Glenn 35-yard line midway through the fourth quarter. Johnson initially trotted onto the field with the punt team, tossing his tee toward the sideline. Then, coach Wayne Jones called a timeout.

“In the huddle, Coach asked me if I wanted to kick it and I said, ‘Yes, sir,’ ” said Johnson, who added that the longest field goal he’d ever made was from 52 yards – in practice. “In a game it’s harder: Snap, hold and kick with pads on.”

from the HPE, with Michael Lindsay, on HP Andrews at Randleman last night:

RANDLEMAN – For just a moment, it looked like Randleman might have the T.W. Andrews football team on the ropes. Then, the Red Raiders got down to serious business.

Trailing by four late in the second quarter, they scored 35 straight points to end the game and rolled to a 41-10 win over the Tigers on Friday, creating a showdown next week against Carver that will likely decide the PAC-6 2A title.

Marquell Cartwright ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Lamar Raynard threw for 248 yards and two TDs — including 124 yards and one TD to Nick Robinson and 93 yards and one TD to Justin Lea — to lead Andrews (7-1, 3-0 PAC-6).

Solid wins last night from Northwest Guilford, Southern Guilford and Northeast Guilford and let’s don’t forget that OVERTIME win by Grimsley at Smith….We have mentioned many of the numbers from last night and next week’s game coming up and have them all for you in separate posts here at the site…..NWG-East Forsyth, BIG PLAY game next week….Southern Guilford still hanging in tight with that two-point win last night….Look out for Northeast Guilford…I have this crazy feeling that the Rams are taking that loss last week to Southern real personal and the Rams might be ready to go on a run here late in the season and going 3-A, they might just have a ‘real say’, in the playoffs….Look out for NEG and Southern in the 3-A’s…

Hard to get over that Dudley comeback win over Western Guilford from last night…Dudley was down 17-0 in the first half and they were behind 31-16 early in the 4th quarter…How did they get back in the game and take their first lead of the night, with only 1:10 left in the contest??? Dudley grabbed that 32-31 lead behind the legs and the arm of ‘Big Plays Hayes’…..’Big Plays Hayes’/Richard Hayes III has done it again for Dudley….Quite a show by ‘Big Plays Hayes’, with 4 touchdowns and he went 5-5 on his two-point conversion runs….Five-for-Five on those 2-point runs and you just say, “here it comes and let’s see if you can stop it” and nobody could stop ‘Big Plays Hayes’ last night, when he got rolling….

Very solid effort by Western Guilford and their RB’s Tray Miller, Ramone Ramsey and Emmanuel Kamala, plus QB Reid Flippin, along with Andrew Shultz, Kevin Gehsman and Nathan Stutts on defense, but there was no defense that was going to stop ‘Big Plays Hayes’ last night, once he got moving….How about a ‘Shout Out’ for that Dudley Panther offensive line….Don’t have all of their names, but those 5 men up front are on the money and they deserve a lot of the credit for the success of the Dudley Panthers and their main man, ‘Big Plays Hayes’…..Tough/stout defense when it counted the most by the Dudley ‘D’, from ‘Big A’ Albert McClean, Chris Register, Neseua Fewell, Spencer Abraham and others and good job by the Panthers to come back and get that win on Homecoming last night, at Tarpley Stadium….Boy, that Register and McLean laid out some ferocious hits last night…They really laid out the lumber…

Dudley now has to get ready to go face the Page Pirates next Friday night in what should be the Metro 4-A Conference Championship Game……..

“Got any more on these games, just bring it”……

  1. Andy, your right on it with the big hits by Albert McClain and Chris Register! That one hit by Register on #4 Tray Miller sent chills down my spine! That hit had to be heard all over the eastside of Greensboro lol! I thought #4 would be done for the rest of the game, but he showed tremendous toughness and heart . The panthers showed tons of heart by playing the whole 4th quarters and not giving up when the they weren’t playing panther football last night. Sloppy game by Dudley but glad they showed up when it counted! Looking forward to the showdown with Page for the Metro 4a next Friday !
