College Men’s Soccer Final: Guilford 1, Virginia Wesleyan 0

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Guilford College senior Greg Carnovale scored the Quakers lone goal in the Guilford’s 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win over Virginia Wesleyan College. The win improves the Quakers’ record inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center to 6-0.

Carnovale put the Quakers on the board in the 9th minute of the 1st half off of a Wes Chappelle throw-in. Carnovale beat his defender and then booted the ball inside the net from the right side.

The Marlins held a 19-12 advantage in shots after Virginia Wesleyan held a narrow 8-7 first half advantage. The Marlins also held the advantage on corner kicks 10-3. Michael MacVane made six saves, leading the Quakers to their second shutout in as many games. Jake Burtch made three stops in net for Virginia Wesleyan.

The Quakers (8-6, 5-3 ODAC) return to Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center Wednesday when Guilford hosts Lynchburg College at 7 p.m.
