GC Women’s Soccer Drops Home Finale to Maryville 2-0

The Pride women’s soccer team fell in its regular season home finale to Maryville on Sunday 2-0. Greensboro was looking to build off of the momentum of Saturday’s come-from-behind victory over Ferrum on Senior Day.

Ashley Howarth put The Pride in a hole in the 42nd minute, beating her defender down the right side of the box and firing a rocket into the upper left corner of the goal.

Phoebe Leo extended the margin to 2-0 just five minutes into the second half, converting a steal into a one-on-one goal.

The Scots controlled possession for much of the day and finished with a 22-6 advantage in total shots. Shireen Unvala suffered the loss in goal despite a solid seven save effort before being replaced by Jessica Thatcher in the 85th minute.

Sydney Boggs recorded a team high two shots while Sarah Hopkins, Elizabeth Albinson and Erin Young each placed a shot on goal.

With the loss, Greensboro stands at 6-8 overall and 5-3 in the USA South. The Pride will be on the road on Saturday, October 20 at Meredith. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
