Elon Women’s Cross Country 12th in Latest Regional Rankings

ELON, N.C. – The Elon’s women’s cross country team moved up to 12th in the latest edition of the Southeast Region Poll as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday morning, Oct. 15.

The women’s program jumped up one spot in the region after competing as a spilt-squad this past weekend with a group competing in the Royal XC Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 12 and its normal top seven running in the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Louisville, Ky.

Elon finished seventh overall at the Royal XC Challenge with Erin Macbeth being the top individual with a time of 18:41.9. At the NCAA Pre-Nationals, the women finished 33rd overall in a field that featured other powerhouses that finished among the nation’s elite in 2011.

Freshman Elyse Bierut and junior Allyson Oram ran the second and third fastest times in school history at Louisville crossing the line with times of 21:50.6 and 21:51.0 respectively.

Both the men’s and women’s programs will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 27, for the Southern Conference Championships in Charleston, S.C.
