Elon Men’s Soccer Debuts at #18 in First RPI Rankings

ELON, N.C. – The Elon men’s soccer team debuted at No. 18 in the first edition of the NCAA RPI Rankings that was released on Tuesday afternoon.

The RPI rankings play a major role in determining the field for the NCAA Tournament. Elon (9-3-1, 3-1 Southern Conference) has helped itself with wins over three ranked opponents in 2012 including upsets of then sixth-ranked Charlotte on Sept. 28 and then at No. 18 West Virginia on Oct. 2.

Coming off a week in which the program was nationally ranked for the first time since 2006, the Phoenix won its ninth match of the season last Friday, Oct. 12, after defeating Georgia Southern, 4-3, in double overtime in SoCon action.

The win improved Elon to 5-1 overall on the road this season and its ninth win in its last 12 matches. The Phoenix has also won seven of its last eight versus SoCon opponents going back to last year’s conference tournament.

The maroon and gold will be back on the pitch tonight to host College of Charleston at Rudd Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
