GC Men’s Soccer Rallies Past Chowan for 3-1 Win

The Pride men’s soccer team recovered nicely from a slow start to run away with a 3-1 home win over Chowan on Wednesday.

Chowan opened the scoring just 1:07 into the game, when Antonio Carrabotta chipped the ball over Greensboro goalkeeper Woody Wilder on a contested play at the top of the box.

Earl Floyd would tie the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute, heading in a free kick from George Dimopoulos. Despite holding a commanding 15-4 advantage in shots during the first half, the game would head into the break even at 1-1.

After numerous missed opportunities to begin the second half, Sean Courtney finally broke the tie in the 72nd minute, converting a cross from Mark Wleh. Drew Clukey would add the final tally, scoring on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 82nd minute.

Greensboro outshot the Hawks on the afternoon by a margin of 29-9 overall and 11-5 on goal. Floyd recorded a game high six shots while Patrick Hayes and Morgan Stevenson each contributed five shots and three shots on goal.

Wilder finished the game in net with four saves to earn the win for The Pride.

Greensboro moves to 9-3-3 on the year. The Pride will wrap-up their non-conference and home slates on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against Southern Virginia on Pride Field.
