Austin Proehl saw some time as the starting quarterback for the Western Guilford Hornets back when he was freshman in high school and he also led the Hornet JV football team to a successful season that year as well…Now Proehl is on a roll with multiple roles at Providence High in Charlotte, playing wide receiver like his dad Ricky did, plus Austin lines up at quarterback, runningback, defensive back, punt returner, kickoff returner and more….He is now a junior at Providence, where he batted .330, as the starting shortstop in his sophomore season, one year ago…

Here is what they are saying about Austin Proehl down in Charlotte at the Charlotte Observer on-line….

From the time he picked up a football, Providence High’s Austin Proehl has been playing in his father’s shadow.

Ricky Proehl is a former NFL wide receiver, amassed 669 catches for 8,878 yards and 54 touchdowns in a 17-year career that featured stints with the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers.

Austin, 16 and a junior at Providence, is perfectly comfortable being associated with his father and being called “Little Ricky.”
