Elon Women’s Tennis Concludes Action at ITA Carolina Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team concluded its fall season on Saturday at the ITA Carolina Regional at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The sixth-seeded doubles tandem of Jordan Johnston and Frida Jansaker saw its run come to an end in the quarterfinals against Duke’s third-seeded team of Ester Goldfeld and Hanna Mar in a tight 8-5 decision. Previously, Johnston and Jansaker knocked off Grosselius and Ekelund from Charlotte (8-5) and South Carolina’s Martin and Siles (8-5).

In singles, the Phoenix had several players pick up wins.

Jansaker captured a first round victory in straight sets, topping Southern Conference foe Anette Rios from UNCG, 6-2, 6-3.

Bryn Khoury also recorded a first-round win over a league rival, claiming a 6-4, 7-6 (3) decision over Davidson’s Elaina Cummer.

The Phoenix also picked up a big win in the consolation bracket, as Barbora Lazarova earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory over Wake Forest’s Brigita Bercyte. Johnston also earned a win in the consolation bracket, defeating NC State’s Taylor Zaytoun, 6-1, 6-1.

Elon wraps up the fall season on Oct. 26 at the Davidson Fall Invitational.
