Guillen gone as manager of the Miami Marlins:Time to call up some Greensboro blood?

MIAMI — The lingering backlash caused by Ozzie Guillen’s praise of Fidel Castro contributed to another Miami Marlins managerial shakeup Tuesday.

There will be a new field manager for the Greensboro Grasshoppers parent team, the Miami Marlins, in 2013….Where do they go from here, do they bring back Jack(Jack McKeon), do they go young and move up Andy Haines(Greensboro skipper 2011 and led the Hopppers to the South Atlantic League Title), do they go outside the Marlins’ system and bring in some more new blood that does not know the Marlins’ organization and their players, or do they wait and see how the landscape settles, once the World Series is complete and Jim Leyland(Detriot Tigers) becomes available again and he can take the Marlins back to the World Series again, like he did back in 1997….
(Just another wild thought, but who knows, maybe they will name Jeff Conine as the new manager and Joe Espada(formerly with Greensboro) is still on staff with the Marlins, but his contract is under review)……

from www.espn.com:

Ozzie Guillen was fired Tuesday after one year with the Marlins, undone by too many losses and one too many ill-advised remarks.

A promising season began to derail in April with Guillen’s laudatory comments about Cuba’s former leader. Six months later, the episode was a factor in the decision to fire Guillen, Marlins officials said.

“Let’s face it. It was not a positive for the team; it was not a positive for Ozzie,” president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said. “It was a disappointment, no doubt about it.”

from the Marlins’ site at MLB.com:

The Ozzie Guillen era is over in Miami.

The Marlins on Tuesday dismissed Guillen after the 48-year-old led Miami to a disappointing 69-93 record and last-place finish in the National League East.

“After careful consideration following the disappointment of the 2012 season, we decided to dismiss Ozzie,” president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said. “Our managerial search begins immediately, and our hope is that a new manager, along with roster improvements, will restore a winning culture.”

Guillen is still owed $7.5 million for the three years remaining on his contract, which was the richest managerial deal in team history. The club is renewing the contracts of Reid Cornelius, the club’s 2012 bullpen coach, and Joey Espada, who served as Guillen’s third-base coach, but the rest of the staff will not return. Cornelius’ and Espada’s roles for next season have yet to be defined.

Guillen had told reporters on the final day of the regular season he hoped to be back.

  1. Jack is a great guy, but I think they need some of the Greensboro magic that Andy Haines has coarsing through his viens. Andy Haines would be my choice.

  2. There has actually been a lot of talk about A Rod going to Miami….Maybe A Rod and his new girlfriend Torie Wilson will end up in Miami…..He is from Miami….
