College Women’s Soccer Final: Emory & Henry 3, Guilford 2

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Two first half Emory & Henry College goals boosted the Wasps to a 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer victory over Guilford College Wednesday night.

The Wasps got on the board first in the ninth minute when Blair Vaughn sent a through-ball into the middle of the box, finding Erica Merriman. In the 37th minute, Bethany Myer collected a turnover in the Quaker defensive midfield and fired a shot from the top of the box to give Emory & Henry a 2-0 lead. The Quakers quickly countered three minutes later when Sarah Levitt booted a shot after a throw-in, cutting the deficit in half.

Emory & Henry countered in the 53rd minute when Sarah Gorenflo flicked a cross to Ashlie Caldwell to put the Wasps up 3-1. In the 81st minute, Caroline Bishop found Levitt in the six-yard box to cut the Emory & Henry lead to one and increasing Levitt’s season goal total to five.

The Quakers held the advantage on shots, 20-17. Miriam Davis-Rosenbaum made eight saves in net for the Quakers. Sarah Jerome had 9 stops for the Wasps.

The Quakers conclude their season with a 4-16 overall record.
