Elon Track and Field Releases 2012-13 Schedule

ELON, N.C. – The Elon track and field team released its 2012-13 indoor and outdoor schedules on Wednesday, Oct. 24, as announced by head coach Mark Elliston. The Phoenix will compete in nine indoor meets and 10 outdoor meets on the season.

“We are ready for the season to start,” said Elliston. “We have been training smart and hard in preparations for every meet this season.”

The indoor season will begin with the Liberty Kickoff on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Lynchburg, Va., the lone indoor meet during the remainder of the 2012 calendar year. The Phoenix will return for its first meet of 2013 in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19. This will familiarize the maroon and gold with the track that will host the Southern Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.

The Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 8-9 will mark the beginning of the outdoor season for the Phoenix. Elon will compete in five other meets – Wake Forest Open, Raleigh Relays, Duke Invitational, Liberty Collegiate Invitational and Joe Hilton Invitational before the SoCon Championships on April 20-21 in Statesboro, Ga.

The outdoor season will conclude with meets at the Duke Twilight (May 5), Virginia Challenge (May 10-11) and the N.C. State Last Chance Meet (May 12).

The NCAA Indoor Nationals will be hosted at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 10-11, while the NCAA Outdoor Championships return to the University of Oregon on June 5-8.

Elliston returns for his seventh season at the helm of the Elon women’s track and field program. The 2012-13 squad made up of talented returners and newcomers will look to improve upon the fifth place standing in both the SoCon indoor and outdoor championships last season.

“We’ll miss our seniors from last year, but our talent level continues to rise,” said Elliston. “We have a nice group of veterans who are ready to go, as well as a great group of freshmen coming in.”

“I’m looking for some big things this season; both from several individuals and from the team as well.”
