GC Volleyball Shuts Out Guilford for 3-0 Road Win

The Greensboro College volleyball team completed the season sweep of cross-town rival Guilford with a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-17) road win on Tuesday night. The Pride also handed the Quakers a 3-1 defeat at the Greensboro College Invitational on September 8.

With The Pride leading 20-15 in set one, Guilford went on a 5-1 run to cut the gap to 21-20. Greensboro pushed the margin to three at 24-21 and held of the Quakers for the 25-22 decision.

The Pride jumped out to an 11-6 lead in set two but saw Guilford respond with six straight points to up 12-11. The remainder of the set went back and fourth with Greensboro reaching set point first at 24-23. After the Quakers evened the score at 24-24, The Pride scored the final two points to grab the win and a 2-0 match lead.

In set three, Greensboro fell behind 11-8 before running off six unanswered points to grab a 14-11 advantage. It was all Pride from there, as Greensboro slowly built up the margin en route to the 25-17 clinching victory.

Liz Widenhouse recorded a match high nine kills with Morgan Hooks adding seven. Cortland Phillips provided 25 sets to the attack. Danielle Simpson posted a match high 18 digs on defense while Siarra Cates also reached double figures with 12. The Pride recorded 4.0 team blocks with Megan Baranko leading the way with two block assists.

Greensboro is now 14-12 on the season. The Pride will host LaGrange and Meredith on Saturday in a key USA South tri-match.
