JAMESTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL WRAPS UP CONFERENCE CROWN WITH WIN OVER SOUTHWEST GUILFORD

Jamestown Middle School and Southwest Guilford Middle School met at Kenneth T. Miller Stadium on the campus of Ragsdale High School on Wednesday night in a key Middle School football matchup.

Jamestown struck first on its first possession. After the Tiger defense forced the Cowboys to turn the ball over on downs, Jamestown went 48 yards in 6 plays with Josh France going around left end for the final 15 yards. The two point conversion was successful on a Jarious Drayton burst off left tackle as the Tigers took an 8 – 0 first quarter lead.

Southwest then got the next two scores on a 64 yard drive and a touchdown off a pass interception to take a 12 – 8 lead. Jamestown struck back before the half on a Travon Mayo three yard run behind the blocking of Robert Alston to take a 16 – 12 lead into the half.

The second half was all Jamestown as the defense held Southwest to 55 yards in total offense while putting three more TD’s on the board to take a 36 – 12 win.

Jamestown rushed the ball 26 times for 261 yards. The offensive line led by Robert Alston, Jordan Logan, Austin Kurtz, Jeremiah Ridgeway and Nick Coleman did an outstanding job all night opening holes for their backs. Jarious Drayton led the Tigers with 116 yards on only 8 carries and a touchdown and two two point conversion carries. Josh France had 67 yards on 4 carries and scored two TD’s. Alex Illescas and Travon Mayo also scored for the Tigers. Quarterback Eric Williams ran the offense and completed 4 of 6 passes for 32 yards.

The Tiger defense was outstanding all night long and kept the Cowboys bottled up. Southwest only gained 93 yards on 21 carries and were held to one pass completion.

With the win, the Tigers under Coach Curt Switalski wrapped up the Conference Championship. Congratulations to the Jamestown Middle School Tigers.
