College Volleyball Final – Shenandoah 3, Guilford 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Haley Smith and Megan Gillispe shared match-high kills honors with 15 apiece in Shenandoah University’s 3-2 win over Guilford Saturday in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Hornets (13-14, 4-7 ODAC) came out strong in the first set, winning 25-12. Guilford (9-17, 3-8 ODAC) countered by winning the tight second set 25-21. The teams traded wins in the next two games, Shenandoah winning the third 25-14 and Guilford winning the fourth 25-20. The Hornets had the last say in the fifth, after trading leads throughout the decisive game, 15-13.

Mary Harshman had nine kills for the Hornets. Kelcy Brown added four on hit .375 hitting. Blake Parkes had 26 assists and match-high 17 digs in the win. Harshman and Nicole Mueller picked up 15 digs apiece. Smith, Parkes and Samantha Schambach combined for nine block assists.

Kelsey Ruehling paced the Quakers (9-17, 3-8 ODAC) with 15 kills and team-high 16 digs defensively. Brittany DeCesare added nine kills, match-high service aces (5) and the contest’s lone solo block. Meredith Foscue had 14 digs. Taylor Whitley tallied match-high 32 digs and added 12 digs. Michaela Wall had match-high four block assists.

Guilford honors its lone senior, Katharine Weikel, in a matchup against William Peace University, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27.
