Elon Women’s Tennis Claims Two Doubles Titles at Davidson Fall Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team conclude its fall campaign today, Oct. 27, at the Davidson Fall Invitational, as the Phoenix won a pair of doubles titles.

The Phoenix had several outstanding performances in the competition, with most of the team playing up several flights.

Viviana Stavreva and Maria Camara Ruiz captured the doubles title in flight one, topping UNC Asheville’s Hamel and Soldier with an 8-6 decision in the final. The tandem defeated Davidson’s Moniz-Soares and Bschorer, 8-3, earlier in the flight before a hard-fought 9-8 victory over USC Upstate’s Bell and Cohen in the semifinals.

Briana Berne and Taylor Casey also won a doubles title for the maroon and gold, defeating Boissevain and McNall from UNC Asheville in the championship. The duo defeated Nickles and McCray from Davidson, 9-7, in the first round before an 8-6 decision over USC Upstate’s Kuerten and Rojas in the semifinals.

Berne and Camara Ruiz came up with wins in singles action for the Phoenix. Berne claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over UNC Asheville’s Emily McNall, while Camara Ruiz topped Amryn Soldier from UNCA, 6-3, 6-2.
