GC Men’s Soccer Advances With Shootout Win at N.C. Wesleyan

The #5 seed Greensboro College men’s soccer team took down the #4 seed Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan in penalty kicks on Saturday in USA South first round tournament action. With the win, The Pride advance to Friday’s semi-finals in Martinsville, VA against top-seeded Christopher Newport.

The teams combined for 39 total shots and 16 shots on goal in 110:00 minutes of action but could not find the back of the net – sending the game into a shootout.

Greensboro capitalized on all five penalty kick attempts, while Pride goalkeeper Manbi Nyepon helped turn away two Battling Bishop attempts. Overall, Greensboro earned the 5-3 penalty kick win to grab a spot in the semi-final round.

The Pride played their next opponent, regular season champion Christopher Newport, to a scorless tie on September 15. Friday’s game will be played at 12 p.m. at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, VA.
